About the Beach
Agios Nikolaos Beach is a charming and very popular coastal spot on the northern coast of Symi, located within a well-protected bay and named after the small white chapel that stands on the rocky headland. It features a shore of fine sand and small pebbles with exceptionally clear, shallow turquoise water that is safe and inviting for swimmers of all ages, making it one of the most family-friendly spots on the island. The beach is well-organized with many rows of sunbeds and umbrellas, and it is shaded by numerous large tamarisk trees that provide a fresh and natural environment for a long afternoon soak. A traditional taverna is located right on the edge of the sand, serving fresh local seafood and chilled drinks in a relaxed and friendly setting that captures the authentic maritime spirit of the Dodecanese. Access is primarily by water taxi from the main port of Gialos, providing a scenic and enjoyable journey along the rugged coastline that reveals the dramatic gray cliffs and the vibrant colors of the sea. This impressive stretch of the coastline represents a high-quality maritime destination that balances modern amenities with the raw charm of the rocky shoreline, making it a central part of the island's seaside life.
