About the Beach

Ammoudi is a picturesque bay located 278 steps below the village of Oia, famous for its clear turquoise water and red volcanic rocks. While there is no traditional sandy beach, it is a favorite spot for swimming and cliff jumping from the small island of Agios Nikolaos. The bay is surrounded by traditional fish tavernas where the water literally laps at the tables. Access is via the long staircase from Oia or by boat. It is a destination for those who want a refreshing dip in deep, clean water after exploring the town above. The atmosphere is social and vibrant, with many boat tours departing and arriving throughout the day. The water is exceptionally clear and offers a powerful swimming experience in the heart of the caldera cliffs. It is a spot where you can feel the immensity of the island. You should be prepared for the climb back up the stairs.
