About the Beach
Mesa Pigadia Beach is a secluded and charming beach located on the southwestern coast of Santorini, near the village of Akrotiri. It features a mix of dark volcanic sand and large pebbles, surrounded by high cliffs that have been carved into interesting shapes by the wind. The beach is partially organized with a family-run taverna and a beach bar, offering a relaxed and comfortable environment away from the major resorts. Access is via a relatively well-maintained dirt road that leads down to a small parking area by the shore. The water is clear and deepens smoothly, providing a high-quality environment for a long soak. A unique feature of this beach is the presence of syrmata, which are traditional fishermen’s caves with colorful doors carved into the rocks. It is a destination for those who want a quiet and authentic beach day in a dramatic geological setting. The bay is well-protected from the strong northern winds.
