About the Beach

Balos is a secluded and picturesque cove located on the caldera side of Santorini, below the village of Akrotiri. It features dark volcanic pebbles and deep blue water with a unique view of the volcano and the cliffs. Access is via a steep and winding dirt road, which keeps the beach quiet and uncrowded. It is an unorganized destination with no commercial facilities, offering a sense of total isolation. The water gets deep quickly, providing a powerful swimming experience in the heart of the caldera. It is a spot for nature lovers and for those who want to see the geological power of the island from sea level. There is a small church built into the rock nearby, adding a spiritual and scenic touch to the landscape. You must bring your own water and food for the journey. It is a part of the coast that feels raw and majestic.
