About the Beach
Katharos is a small and rugged pebbled beach located near Oia on the northern tip of the island. It features clear deep water and a shore of dark pebbles under massive white volcanic rocks. Access is via a narrow path that leads down from a small parking area, keeping the beach relatively quiet compared to nearby Ammoudi. It is an unorganized destination with a raw and authentic character. The water is fresh and the views across the sea toward the island of Thirassia are beautiful. It is a destination for those who want a quiet dip in a scenic setting. A popular lounge bar is located on the cliff above, offering food and drinks with a view of the sunset. The atmosphere on the shore is peaceful and reflects the wild nature of the northern coast. You should bring your own supplies for the sand. The entry into the water is via the pebbles and stones.
