About the Beach
Mikri Vigla Beach is a world-renowned and dual-character coastal landmark on the western coast of Naxos, famously divided into two distinct bays by a rocky headland. The northern bay is a premier international hub for kitesurfing and windsurfing due to the consistent meltemi winds that blow through the strait, creating an energetic and colorful atmosphere of sails and kites. The southern bay, known as Sahara, is a vast and sheltered stretch of fine white sand and shallow turquoise water that remains calm and family-friendly even on windy days. The beach is well-organized with many rows of sunbeds, umbrellas, and traditional tavernas that serve high-quality local cuisine right on the edge of the sand. The water is exceptionally clean and the entry is very easy and sandy for all swimmers, providing a safe and inviting spot for a long day by the sea. Access is easy via a paved road from the main town, and there is plenty of space for visitors to explore the surrounding dunes. The atmosphere is a unique mix of high-energy sports and quiet relaxation, reflecting the diverse spirit of the island. It is a landmark of the Cyclades and offers a wide horizon.
