About the Beach

Spilia is a unique and very beautiful beach on Kato Koufonisi, named after the small sea caves that are found along its rocky edges. The shore is a mix of sand and pebbles, and the water is an intense, glowing blue that is very inviting. It is located near the island’s small pier and the only taverna, making it one of the more accessible spots on this remote island. The caves provide a bit of natural shade and are fun to explore with a mask and snorkel. The atmosphere is very laid-back and alternative, attracting those who prefer a more rugged and uncommercialized seaside experience. The view across the water toward the main island of Ano Koufonisi is spectacular, especially in the clear morning light. It is a great place to combine a beautiful swim with a traditional meal in a very quiet, rural setting.
