Leriou Surname Meaning

The Greek surname Leriou (Λερίου) is a genitive surname that may derive from a personal name or geographic designation such as Lerios (Λέριος). If related to the island of Leros (Λέρος), Lerios would mean “person from Leros,” making Leriou essentially “of the Lerian.” It could therefore preserve an ancestral geographic connection with the Dodecanese island of Leros, particularly if an ancestor migrated elsewhere and was identified by his place of origin. A separate personal-name derivation remains possible, but the geographic interpretation is plausible.
