St. Ardalion the Actor Feast Day and Greek Name Day

St. Ardalion the Actor is honored in the Orthodox Christian Church as a Christian martyr who converted to Christianity and gave his life for the faith. His feast day is celebrated on April 14, and on this day people named Ardalion and Ardaliona celebrate their Greek name day.

Who Was St. Ardalion

St. Ardalion lived during the early centuries of Christianity and was known as a stage actor in the Roman Empire. According to Christian tradition, he once performed in a theatrical play that mocked Christian baptism.

During the performance, Ardalion suddenly experienced a deep spiritual realization and publicly declared his belief in Jesus Christ.

Conversion to Christianity

After proclaiming his faith on stage, the audience initially believed he was continuing the performance. However, Ardalion insisted that his conversion was genuine and that he now truly believed in Christianity.

This declaration shocked the authorities, especially during a time when Christianity was often persecuted.

Martyrdom

Because of his refusal to deny his new faith, St. Ardalion was arrested and subjected to torture. Despite pressure to return to pagan worship, he remained faithful to Christ.

He was eventually martyred for his belief, and the Church later honored him among the Christian martyrs.

Greek Name Day for Ardalion

Because St. Ardalion the Actor is commemorated on April 14, this date is also the Greek name day for:
