St. Asklepios Feast Day and Greek Name Day

St. Asklepios is honored in the Orthodox Christian Church as a martyr remembered for his faith and devotion to Christianity during the early centuries of the Church. His feast day is celebrated on February 27, and on this day people named Asklepios, Asclepius, and Asklepiadis, among other variations celebrate their Greek name day.

Who Was St. Asklepios

St. Asklepios lived during the early Christian period and is remembered as one of the saints who remained faithful to Christianity during times when believers often faced persecution.

Although historical details about his life are limited, the Church honors him for his devotion to the Christian faith and his willingness to suffer for his beliefs.

Martyrdom and Christian Witness

According to Church tradition, St. Asklepios remained firm in his Christian faith despite pressure from authorities to renounce it. Because of this commitment, he ultimately suffered martyrdom.

His life became an example of courage and faithfulness for early Christian communities.

Greek Name Day for Asklepios

Because St. Asklepios is commemorated on February 27, this date is also the Greek name day for:

Asklepiadis

In Greek culture, celebrating a name day is often just as important as celebrating a birthday, and friends and family commonly offer well wishes or visits to honor the person whose name is being celebrated.
