St. Chrysanthos Feast Day and Greek Name Day

St. Chrysanthos is honored in the Orthodox Christian Church as a Christian martyr remembered for his devotion to the faith and his witness during a time of persecution in the Roman Empire. His feast day is celebrated on March 19, and on this day people named Chrysanthos, Chrysanthi, and Chrysanthia celebrate their Greek name day.

Who Was St. Chrysanthos

St. Chrysanthos lived during the 3rd century and is remembered together with St. Daria, with whom he shared a story of faith and martyrdom. According to Christian tradition, Chrysanthos was raised in a pagan household but later encountered Christianity and converted to the faith.

After his conversion, he devoted himself to learning about Christian teachings and spreading the message of Christianity.

Faith and Conversion

St. Chrysanthos eventually married Daria, who also converted to Christianity. Together they lived a life dedicated to faith and encouraged others to follow the Christian message.

Their devotion led many people to Christianity, but it also attracted the attention of Roman authorities who opposed the spread of the new religion.

Martyrdom of St. Chrysanthos

Because of their faith, Chrysanthos and Daria were arrested and persecuted during a period when Christians were often punished for refusing to worship Roman gods.

According to Christian tradition, both remained steadfast in their beliefs and ultimately suffered martyrdom, becoming honored saints in the Orthodox Christian Church.

Greek Name Day for Chrysanthos

Because St. Chrysanthos is commemorated on March 19, this date is also the Greek name day for:

In Greek culture, celebrating a name day is often just as important as celebrating a birthday, and friends and family commonly offer well wishes or visits to honor the person whose name is being celebrated.

When St. Chrysanthos Is Celebrated
