St. Evgenios Feast Day and Greek Name Day

St. Evgenios is honored in the Orthodox Christian Church as a martyr remembered for his courage and devotion to the Christian faith during the persecutions of the early Church. His feast day is celebrated on January 21, and on this day people named Evgenios, Evgenia, Eugene, Gino, and Gina celebrate their Greek name day.

Who Was St. Evgenios

St. Evgenios lived during the early centuries of Christianity when believers often faced persecution under the Roman Empire. He is remembered as one of the saints who remained faithful to Christ despite the dangers Christians faced during that period.

His life is commemorated by the Church as an example of steadfast faith and dedication to Christian teachings.

Martyrdom of St. Evgenios

According to Christian tradition, St. Evgenios openly professed his Christian faith at a time when Roman authorities required citizens to worship pagan gods. When he refused to renounce Christianity, he was arrested and subjected to punishment.

Despite these pressures, he remained loyal to his beliefs and ultimately suffered martyrdom, becoming honored among the saints of the Church.

Greek Name Day for Evgenios

Because St. Evgenios is commemorated on January 21, this date is also the Greek name day for:

In Greek culture, celebrating a name day is often just as important as celebrating a birthday, and friends and family commonly offer well wishes or visits to honor the person whose name is being celebrated.
