How Many Days Should I Spend in Trikala?

Trikala covers well in a single day. The Litheos river cuts through the center with cafes and cycling paths lining both banks, and a Byzantine castle with a clock tower overlooks the red-roofed old town from a hill above it. Basing in Trikala rather than staying directly in Kalambaka gives access to the monasteries without giving up the river and city life, and most visitors need at least a full day there to see two or three monasteries properly rather than rushing all six.
