Is Agistri Expensive?
Agistri ranks among the more affordable islands in Greece, and its small size works directly in budget-conscious travelers' favor, since everything sits close enough together that transport costs barely factor into a visit.
Agistri offers real value across Skala and Megalochori, the island's two main settlements, with budget-friendly studio rentals and simple guesthouses giving families and solo travelers alike a low-cost base close to the beach. Self-catering apartments make it easy to cut food costs further, and Skala's wide selection of tavernas, cafes, and small shops keeps dining reasonable even for a village this size.
Getting around costs almost nothing, since the island covers only about 13 square kilometers and stays easy to explore on foot or by bike, with a local bus connecting the settlements for anyone who'd rather not walk. Over 80 percent of Agistri stays covered in pine forest, and the marked walking paths through it cost nothing beyond the effort of the hike itself.
Beach access mostly stays free, though Aponisos, the small islet connected by a wooden platform, charges a modest fee that includes sunbed use, and Dragonera and Chalikiada both remain free to enjoy without any entrance cost.
Reaching Agistri costs little, since ferries from Piraeus run frequently and take under an hour, and the short additional hop to or from Aegina makes it easy to combine both islands without much added expense.
Agistri suits budget-conscious travelers wanting a real, low-key Saronic island close to Athens, and its combination of affordable stays, walkable distances, and mostly free natural attractions keeps a visit here inexpensive throughout.
