Is Agistri Good for Families?

Agistri keeps its main beaches shallow and close to the port, and pine forest reaching almost to the shoreline gives most of them natural shade too. Yes, it works well for families.

Agistri's Skala Beach, about 100 meters from the harbor, gives the clearest family pick, with shallow, clear water, organized sunbeds and umbrellas, and cafes lining the shore, all within a short walk of village hotels and restaurants. Megalochori Beach, near the island's other main village, offers a similarly easy option for families settling in nearby.

Chalikiada, right in front of the village center and shaded by pine trees, stays shallow enough to suit swimmers of every age, and its convenient location near the blue-domed church of Agioi Anargyroi makes it an easy default beach day. Dragonera, on the west coast, gives calm, safe swimming in a quieter setting, framed by pine-capped rocks, with a single row of loungers available from a small kiosk.

Aponisos, tucked in its own sheltered lake-like bay, gives another calm, protected option well suited to younger children who need gentler water than the open coast provides. Families wanting more adventure can join a boat trip around the coastline, often paired with snorkeling stops and a barbecue lunch, or take an easy day trip across to Aegina, close enough for a full day of ancient sites and pottery workshops without much planning.

Agistri stays small enough that buses, taxis, or a rented bike cover the whole island easily, and its position just under an hour from Piraeus by fast ferry makes it one of the more manageable Saronic islands for a shorter family trip.

Agistri suits families wanting shallow, shaded beaches close to the village, a genuine sense of quiet pine-covered coastline, and easy access to Aegina for anyone wanting to add a day of ancient history to the trip.
