Where Should I Stay in Trikala?

Trikala comes down to staying in the city itself or basing further out in the mountains, and the choice depends on whether the river and bike paths or a slower, alpine pace matters more.

Trikala's city center puts hotels within walking distance of the Litheos river, the Byzantine castle, and the Varousi district's 19th century houses, and it suits most visitors given how walkable and genuinely bike-friendly the core actually is, with paths running along both riverbanks connecting most of what there is to see.

Staying in the center also works well as a base for anyone visiting Meteora, since the monasteries sit about thirty minutes away, and choosing Trikala over Kalambaka trades proximity to the rock formations for more river life and city character to return to each evening.

Pertouli, in the mountains southwest of the city, gives a completely different setting, with forested trails, horseback riding, and a small ski center depending on the season. It suits travelers who want a slower, alpine pace as part of the trip rather than staying entirely within the city.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay in Trikala cover the city center and options further into the mountains toward Pertouli, so the choice comes down to river life versus alpine quiet.

The city center suits most visitors, cyclists, and anyone pairing the stay with a visit to Meteora, while Pertouli suits travelers wanting mountain trails, horseback riding, or a season built around winter sports.
