Where Should I Stay on Samos?

Samos splits across the south, east, and west coasts, and the choice comes down to history and easy logistics, port culture, beach access, or hiking and quiet.

Samos's Pythagorio, on the south coast, gives the strongest base for first-time visitors, sitting near the airport and the ferry terminal, with the ancient theater and Heraion within easy reach alongside beach resorts along Potokaki. It suits travelers wanting culture and convenience in one place.

Vathy, also called Samos Town, the capital and main port, suits travelers wanting local nightlife and the Archaeological Museum close to where they're staying, with easy access to ferries for anyone island-hopping.

Kokkari, on the north coast, gives the island's most developed beach base, with three well known stretches, Tsamadou, Lemonakia, and Tsambou, all reachable on foot, and a fishing village center with restaurants and a modest nightlife scene. It suits families and couples wanting beach access alongside evening options.

Karlovasi and Marathokampos, on the west coast, trade that convenience for a quieter, more local pace, with access to the Seitani beaches and hiking trails leading up Mount Kerkis. This area suits travelers wanting nature and fewer crowds over resort facilities.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Samos span Pythagorio, Vathy, Kokkari, and the western coast, so the choice comes down to convenience, port life, beach access, or hiking.

Samos has its own airport, and travelers arriving by ferry, including connections through Ikaria and Patmos, should check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit. Pythagorio suits most first-time visitors, Vathy suits those wanting port culture, Kokkari suits families and beach-focused stays, and Karlovasi or Marathokampos suit travelers seeking Samos's quieter west.
