Getting from Aegina to Corfu

If you are heading to Corfu from Aegina you are making your way to the northwestern part of Greece, an island in the Ionian Sea with a UNESCO World Heritage Site town and a lush green coastline.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Corfu. No port of Athens is connected to Corfu by sea. The only mainland ferry connection to Corfu departs from Igoumenitsa in Epirus, with up to 18 daily crossings taking around 1 hour 20 minutes. Getting to Igoumenitsa from Aegina means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then travelling by road northwest to Igoumenitsa, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Both Corfu and Athens have airports. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Corfu takes around 1 hour in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours and is the most practical approach for most travellers.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and fly to Corfu. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive northwest to Igoumenitsa for the ferry across to Corfu, which gives you a vehicle on the island for exploring the coastline and interior villages.
