Getting from Aegina to Patras

If you are heading to Patras from Aegina you are making your way to the third largest city in Greece on the southern shore of the Gulf of Corinth, the main gateway to the Ionian islands and western Europe.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Patras. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travelling by road or rail west to Patras, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours from Athens via the E65 motorway.

Getting there by air

Patras has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then flying is not a practical option for this route given the proximity of Patras to Athens.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive or take the KTEL bus to Patras. The bus from Athens Kifissos terminal runs frequently and takes around 2.5 to 3 hours. The train from Piraeus to Kiato and then bus to Patras is another option, taking around 3 to 3.5 hours in total. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive west to Patras via the E65 motorway.
