Getting from Agios Efstratios to Psara

If you are heading to Psara from Agios Efstratios you are making your way to a small rocky island off the northwestern coast of Chios in the northeastern Aegean, relatively close to Agios Efstratios in geographic terms. It has one of the most moving histories in Greece, almost entirely destroyed by the Ottoman fleet in 1824 and never fully recovered.

Take the ferry

The most practical sea connection between the two islands goes via Chios, which is on the same mainline route as Agios Efstratios. You can take the direct seasonal ferry from Agios Efstratios to Chios, which takes around 5 hours 10 minutes and runs once a week in summer, and then connect to Psara by the daily local ferry from Chios, which takes around 3 hours. This keeps the journey entirely within the northeastern Aegean without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Psara has no airport. The nearest airport is Chios, which has connections from Athens and Lemnos. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying directly to Chios, followed by the local ferry to Psara taking around 3 hours, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos and fly directly to Chios, then take the local ferry across to Psara. The direct Lemnos to Chios flight avoids Athens entirely and is the fastest approach. Alternatively, if the weekly direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Chios aligns with your dates, take it and connect to Psara from there. Give yourself at least two nights on Psara and bring everything you need with you.
