Getting from Agistri to Amorgos

If you are heading to Amorgos from Agistri you are making your way from a small pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf to the most eastern of the Cyclades, with dramatic cliffs, the extraordinary Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built into the cliff face above the sea and an atmosphere that rewards those who make the effort to get there.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Amorgos. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5 to 9 hours depending on the vessel. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola in the centre and Aegiali in the north, so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation as the road between them takes around 30 minutes.

Getting there by air

Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos. Taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Naxos, followed by the ferry to Amorgos taking around 2 to 3 hours, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry. It is the most direct approach. Give Amorgos at least three nights. The island opens up slowly and rewards those who stay long enough to find its rhythm. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus takes your vehicle directly to the island.
