Getting from Agistri to Kythnos

If you are heading to Kythnos from Agistri you are making your way from a small pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf to an island in the western Cyclades. It has over 60 beaches and a medieval village at Driopida that hardly anyone outside Greece knows about.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Kythnos and Agistri is not connected to the Cyclades ferry network. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then travel to Lavrio, around 30 minutes from Athens Airport by taxi, for the ferry to Kythnos taking around 1 hour 10 minutes with up to 5 daily departures in summer. Alternatively, the Piraeus to Kythnos ferry also runs several times a week and takes around 3 hours.

Getting there by air

Kythnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and then a taxi to Lavrio for the ferry to Kythnos gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, take the metro to Athens Airport and then a taxi directly to Lavrio for the ferry across to Kythnos. The proximity of Lavrio to Athens Airport makes it one of the most convenient island connections in Greece. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Agistri already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive to Lavrio for the ferry across to Kythnos.
