Getting from Agistri to Koufonisia
If you are heading to Koufonisia from Agistri you are making your way from a small pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf to one of the Small Cyclades islands. It has some of the finest beaches in the Cyclades and a lively summer atmosphere that punches well above its size.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Koufonisia. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Koufonisia ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5 to 9 hours depending on the vessel. Alternatively, take the Piraeus to Naxos ferry and connect to Koufonisia on the local Express Skopelitis, which takes around 45 minutes from Naxos and runs almost daily in summer.
Getting there by air
Koufonisia has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos. Taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Naxos, followed by the short ferry to Koufonisia taking around 45 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours.
Your best option
Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and fly to Naxos via Athens, then take the short ferry across to Koufonisia. It is the most time efficient approach. Book ahead in summer as Koufonisia has very limited accommodation and the island fills up fast. If you are traveling with a car, take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and board the direct Piraeus to Koufonisia ferry.
