Getting from Agistri to Naxos

If you are heading to Naxos from Agistri you are making your way from a small pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf to the largest island in the Cyclades. It has a medieval Venetian town above the port, long sandy beaches on the west coast and a mountainous interior of marble villages.

 

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Naxos. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Naxos ferry, which runs up to 7 daily departures in summer and takes around 3.5 to 5.5 hours depending on the vessel. Total journey time from Agistri is around 5 to 7 hours.

 

Getting there by air

Naxos has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Naxos takes around 40 to 45 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours. The ferry from Piraeus is often the more practical option given the frequency and direct delivery to Naxos Town port.

 

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Naxos ferry. The arrival by sea with the Portara temple doorframe visible from the water is one of the great Cycladic arrivals and is reason enough to take the ferry over the flight. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus takes your vehicle directly to the island.
