Getting from Alexandroupoli to Athens
If you are heading to Athens from Alexandroupoli you are making your way from the far northeastern corner of Greece to the capital, across the full breadth of the country.
Take the ferry
There is no practical direct ferry from Alexandroupoli to Athens. A connection exists via Lemnos and other northern Aegean islands to Lavrio but takes around 14 to 15 hours and is not a realistic option when flying takes just over an hour.
Getting there by air
Both Alexandroupoli and Athens have airports. Daily flights connect the two with the journey taking around 1 hour 10 minutes. This is the fastest and most practical approach by a significant margin. Multiple daily departures are available throughout the year.
Your best option
Fly from Alexandroupoli to Athens. It is the obvious choice and at just over an hour one of the most effortless domestic connections in Greece. If you are traveling with a car, the drive from Alexandroupoli to Athens via the Egnatia motorway and E75 takes around 8 to 9 hours and is a genuinely scenic route through northern and central Greece.
