Getting from Alexandroupoli to Sifnos

If you are heading to Sifnos from Alexandroupoli you are making your way from the far northeastern corner of Greece to one of the most respected islands in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It is known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alexandroupoli to Sifnos. Alexandroupoli's ferry connections are limited to Samothrace, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios and Lavrio. Getting to Sifnos by sea means flying to Athens first and then taking the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which runs up to 4 times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 hours on the fast boat.

Getting there by air

Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Alexandroupoli to Athens and then taking the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Fly from Alexandroupoli to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos. At around 2.5 hours on the fast boat the Piraeus to Sifnos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Alexandroupoli to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Kamares port.
