Getting from Alexandroupoli to Serifos

If you are heading to Serifos from Alexandroupoli you are making your way from the far northeastern corner of Greece to an island in the western Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has a Chora that climbs a steep hill above the port in a way that looks almost impossibly dramatic from the water.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alexandroupoli to Serifos. Alexandroupoli's ferry connections are limited to Samothrace, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios and Lavrio. Getting to Serifos by sea means flying to Athens first and then taking the Piraeus to Serifos ferry, which runs 4 to 5 times daily in summer and takes around 2 to 3.5 hours.

Getting there by air

Serifos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Alexandroupoli to Athens and then taking the ferry from Piraeus to Serifos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Fly from Alexandroupoli to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus to Serifos. At around 2 to 3.5 hours the Piraeus to Serifos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Alexandroupoli to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Serifos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Livadi port.
