Getting from Amorgos to Agathonisi

If you are heading to Agathonisi from Amorgos you are making your way from the most eastern of the Cyclades to one of the most remote islands in the Dodecanese group. It has almost no tourist infrastructure and an atmosphere of complete isolation.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Amorgos to Agathonisi running in summer on the wider Blue Star route that connects the Cyclades with the Dodecanese. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes around 5 to 8 hours depending on the vessel and stops. It is a good option if you want to travel by sea and avoid going through Athens entirely. Check the schedule carefully before planning around it.

Getting there by air

Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Leros and Samos. Amorgos has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Leros or Samos, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi, which runs 3 to 5 times a week and takes around 1 to 2 hours, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, fly to Athens and then fly to Leros or Samos and take the local ferry across to Agathonisi. Check the ferry schedule before booking your flights as the service runs a limited number of times per week. If you prefer to travel by sea, check whether the seasonal direct ferry from Amorgos aligns with your dates as it avoids Athens entirely.
