Getting from Amorgos to Piraeus

If you are heading to Piraeus from Amorgos you are making your way from the most eastern of the Cyclades to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus running daily in summer and several times a week in winter, taking around 5.5 to 9.5 hours depending on the vessel. The conventional Blue Star ferry is comfortable with cabins available and is the most practical option. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, so check which port your ferry departs from before making your way to the quayside. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens.

Getting there by air

Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Amorgos has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, flying to Athens and then taking the metro or taxi to Piraeus, which takes around 20 to 45 minutes from Athens Airport, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours and is considerably faster than the direct ferry.

Your best option

Take the direct overnight ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus. It is comfortable, saves a night's accommodation and you arrive in the morning ready to connect to the rest of the network. If you are in a hurry, take the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos and fly to Athens. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus is the only practical choice as it takes your vehicle directly to the port.
