Getting from Andros to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Andros you are making the most effortless connection from the island, to the capital and everything it connects to.

Take the ferry

The Andros to Rafina ferry is the main connection from the island to Athens, running up to 11 times daily in summer and year-round with fewer departures in winter. The conventional ferry takes around 2 hours and the fast catamaran takes around 1 hour 5 to 1 hour 15 minutes. From Rafina a short taxi or bus ride takes you to Athens Airport in around 20 to 25 minutes, or to central Athens in around 40 minutes.

Getting there by air

Andros has no airport. The ferry to Rafina is the only realistic first step from the island. From Rafina you are already at Athens Airport's doorstep, making onward connections by air straightforward.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Andros to Rafina. With up to 11 daily departures in summer you can turn up at Gavrio port, buy a ticket and be in the Athens area within the hour. From Rafina the bus takes around 30 to 40 minutes to central Athens or directly to the airport. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry takes your vehicle directly to Rafina and from there the road to Athens is fast and direct.
