Getting from Antipaxos to Kastellorizo

If you are heading to Kastellorizo from Antipaxos you are making one of the longer journeys in the Greek island world, from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to the easternmost point of Greece, a tiny island just off the Turkish coast with a harbour of neoclassical mansions, the extraordinary Blue Cave and an atmosphere of complete tranquility.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Antipaxos to Kastellorizo. Antipaxos has no ferry port of its own and is accessible only by sea taxi from Gaios on Paxos. Getting to Kastellorizo by sea means taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa, traveling to Piraeus and boarding the Piraeus to Kastellorizo ferry, which runs 6 times a week and takes around 20 to 22 hours stopping at multiple Dodecanese islands along the way. The total journey takes the better part of three days.

Getting there by air

Kastellorizo has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Antipaxos has no airport either. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and flying to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kastellorizo gives a total journey time of around 8 to 9 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu, fly to Athens and then fly to Rhodes and connect to Kastellorizo by air or local ferry. Give yourself at least two nights on Kastellorizo. The island is small enough to walk around in an afternoon and extraordinary enough to make you want to stay much longer.
