Getting from Antipaxos to Kefalonia

If you are heading to Kefalonia from Antipaxos you are making your way from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to the largest of the Ionian islands, a relatively short distance to the south. It is mountainous with dramatic cliffs, turquoise bays and some of the finest beaches in Greece.

Take the ferry

There are no direct scheduled ferries from Antipaxos to Kefalonia. Antipaxos has no ferry port of its own and is accessible only by sea taxi from Gaios on Paxos. No direct sea connection exists between Paxos and Kefalonia. Getting to Kefalonia means taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and then driving south to Kyllini on the western Peloponnese for the ferry to Kefalonia, which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes and runs up to 4 daily crossings. Alternatively drive south to Patras for the ferry to Kefalonia via Sami.

Getting there by air

Kefalonia has an international airport with connections from Athens. Antipaxos has no airport either. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and flying to Athens and then Athens to Kefalonia takes around 45 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 7 to 8 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and drive south to Kyllini for the ferry across to Kefalonia. It avoids Athens entirely and keeps the journey within western Greece. If you prefer to fly, take the sea taxi to Paxos, ferry to Corfu and fly to Athens then Kefalonia.
