Getting from Astakos to Evia

If you are heading to Evia from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to the second largest island in Greece, connected to the mainland by road bridges and relatively close in geographic terms.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Evia. Astakos ferry connections are limited to Kefalonia and Ithaca. Getting to Evia means driving northeast from Astakos via the E65 motorway to Halkida, which takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, and then crossing the bridge into Evia. Alternatively drive to Arkitsa for the short ferry to Loutra Edipsou in northern Evia, which takes around 30 minutes. Both options avoid Athens entirely.

Getting there by air

Evia has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Astakos has no airport either. Driving northeast from Astakos to Evia via the E65 motorway is considerably more practical than flying for this mainland connection and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Astakos northeast via the E65 motorway to Halkida and cross the bridge into Evia. At around 2.5 to 3 hours it is one of the most direct connections from Astakos to Evia and avoids Athens entirely. If you are heading to the northern part of the island, the ferry from Arkitsa to Loutra Edipsou is a convenient alternative. If you are heading to the south, continue through Halkida and drive down through Evia to your destination.
