Getting from Astakos to Ithaca

If you are heading to Ithaca from Astakos you are making the most natural connection from the port, to the legendary home of Odysseus just across the water. It has a deep central bay at Vathy that is one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the Ionian.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Astakos to Ithaca running daily, operated by Ionion Pelagos. The ferry goes to Pisaetos port on Ithaca and takes around 3 hours. In summer there is also a seasonal service to Frikes on the northern tip of Ithaca, which takes around 2 hours. It is the most natural and direct connection from Astakos and one of the most effortless island connections on the western Greek coast.

Getting there by air

Ithaca has no airport. The nearest airport is Kefalonia. Astakos has no airport either. The direct ferry is the only realistic option for this connection and at around 2 to 3 hours depending on the port it is one of the most straightforward Ionian island connections from the mainland.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Astakos to Ithaca. It runs daily and carries vehicles making it effortless for travelers with or without a car. Check the schedule in advance as departure times vary by season. If you are heading to the main town of Vathy, note that Pisaetos is on the southern tip of the island and a short drive or taxi ride from the capital.
