Getting from Astakos to Kimolos

If you are heading to Kimolos from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to a small white island just off the northwestern tip of Milos in the western Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has beaches that see a fraction of the crowds found anywhere nearby.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Kimolos. Astakos ferry connections are limited to Kefalonia and Ithaca. Getting to Kimolos means driving from Astakos to Athens, which takes around 3.5 hours, and then taking the Piraeus to Milos ferry, which runs several times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 to 3.5 hours on the fast boat, followed by the short local ferry from Pollonia to Kimolos taking around 20 to 25 minutes and running daily. Alternatively drive to Athens and fly to Milos, then take the short ferry across.

Getting there by air

Kimolos has no airport. The nearest airport is Milos. Astakos has no airport either. Driving from Astakos to Athens and flying to Milos, then taking the short local ferry from Pollonia to Kimolos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Astakos to Athens, fly to Milos and take the short local ferry across to Kimolos. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Astakos to Athens and continue to Piraeus for the conventional Piraeus to Milos ferry, then cross to Kimolos from Pollonia on the local ferry.
