Getting from Astakos to Parga

If you are heading to Parga from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to a Venetian-built harbour town on the Epirus coast, relatively close in geographic terms on the western Greek mainland. It faces the Ionian Sea with good beaches and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Parga. Astakos ferry connections are limited to Kefalonia and Ithaca. Parga is a mainland coastal town accessible only by road. Getting there means driving north from Astakos via Arta and Preveza to Parga, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. It is one of the most natural and direct connections from Astakos given the geographic proximity on the western Greek coast.

Getting there by air

Parga has no airport. The nearest airports are Preveza, around 65 kilometres south, and Ioannina, around 103 kilometres east. Astakos has no airport either. Driving from Astakos north to Parga via Arta and Preveza is considerably more practical than flying for this mainland connection and takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Astakos north to Parga via Arta and Preveza. At around 2 to 2.5 hours it is one of the most natural and direct connections from Astakos on the western Greek mainland and avoids Athens entirely. It is a pleasant drive up the western Greek coast with good roads throughout.
