Getting from Astypalaia to Sifnos

If you are heading to Sifnos from Astypalaia you are making your way from a butterfly-shaped island between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to one of the most respected islands in the Cyclades, on the western side of the Aegean. It is known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Astypalaia to Sifnos running in summer on the wider Blue Star and Seajets routes that connect Astypalaia with the western Cyclades. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes several hours with stops along the way. The more practical approach is to take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and then the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which runs up to 4 times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 hours on the fast boat.

Getting there by air

Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Astypalaia has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Astypalaia to Athens and then taking the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly from Astypalaia to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos. At around 2.5 hours on the fast boat the Piraeus to Sifnos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Kamares port.
