Getting from Athens to Agistri

If you are heading to Agistri from Athens you are going to the smallest of the Saronic islands and one of the most quietly appealing places within easy reach of the capital. Agistri is almost entirely covered in pine forest that reaches the shoreline in places, giving it a lush green character that feels completely different from the bare rock of the Cyclades. The beaches are good, the water is clear and the island has stayed low-key enough that its visitors are mostly Athenians who have been coming for years rather than international tourists who have just discovered it. It is the kind of island you go to in order to do very little, very well.

Take the ferry

The Piraeus to Agistri ferry is one of the most frequent Saronic crossings, with up to 15 daily departures in summer to both ports on the island, Skala and Megalochori. The crossing takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes depending on the vessel and the port. The connection is so frequent that you rarely need to book in advance except on summer weekends when Athenians head out in numbers.

Getting there by air

Agistri has no airport. The ferry from Piraeus is the only option and at under 1 hour 35 minutes on the fast boat it is one of the most effortless connections from Athens in Greece.
