Getting from Chios to Piraeus
If you are heading to Piraeus from Chios you are making your way from one of the most overlooked islands in the northeastern Aegean to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network.
Take the ferry
There is a direct overnight ferry from Chios to Piraeus running around 3 times a week, taking around 9 hours. It is a comfortable connection with cabins available and arrives in the morning. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens. The faster alternative is to fly from Chios to Athens and then take the metro or taxi to Piraeus, which takes around 20 to 45 minutes from Athens Airport.
Getting there by air
Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Chios has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Flying from Chios to Athens and then taking the metro or taxi to Piraeus gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours and is considerably faster than the direct ferry.
Your best option
Fly from Chios to Athens and take the metro directly to Piraeus. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are in no hurry or are traveling with a car, the overnight ferry from Chios to Piraeus is comfortable and delivers you directly to the port in the morning ready to connect to the rest of the network.
