Getting from Chios to Mykonos
If you are heading to Mykonos from Chios you are making your way from one of the most overlooked islands in the northeastern Aegean to the most cosmopolitan island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of Greece. It has a maze of whitewashed lanes above the port, long beaches on the south coast and some of the best beach clubs in Greece.
Take the ferry
There is a direct ferry from Chios to Mykonos running several times a week in summer via the Blue Star route, taking around 4 to 5 hours. It is one of the more natural sea connections from Chios into the Cyclades and keeps the journey within the Aegean island network without going through Athens or Piraeus. Check the schedule before traveling as the service runs a limited number of times per week.
Getting there by air
Mykonos has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Chios has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Flying from Chios to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos takes around 40 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the direct ferry from Chios to Mykonos when the schedule works for your dates. It keeps the journey within the Aegean island network and avoids Athens entirely. If the timing does not align, fly from Chios to Athens and then fly to Mykonos. Book ahead in July and August as Mykonos flight spaces fill up fast. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Chios to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Mykonos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Mykonos New Port.
