Getting from Crete to Porto Heli
If you are heading to Porto Heli from Crete you are making your way to one of the most attractive coastal destinations on the Greek mainland, a sheltered harbour on the Argolic Gulf with a marina that draws sailing boats from across the Mediterranean and Spetses visible across the water.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Crete to Porto Heli. Getting there by sea means taking the overnight ferry from Crete to Piraeus and then either taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Porto Heli, which takes around 2 hours, or travelling by road south through the Peloponnese, which takes around 2.5 to 3 hours from Athens.
Getting there by air
Porto Heli has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then the drive or Saronic ferry to Porto Heli takes around 2 to 3 hours. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and drive to Porto Heli or take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus. The drive through the Peloponnese takes around 2.5 to 3 hours and gives you a car on arrival for exploring the surrounding Argolic coast. The Saronic ferry is a more relaxed approach if you are not bringing a vehicle.
