Getting from Crete to Mykonos
If you are heading to Mykonos from Crete you are making one of the classic Aegean island hops, from the largest and most ancient island in Greece to the most cosmopolitan. Getting from Crete to Mykonos is pretty straightforward.
Take the ferry
There is a direct seasonal ferry from Crete to Mykonos running in summer, departing from Heraklion and taking around 4 to 5 hours on the fast catamaran. The route is not year-round so check the schedule before planning around it. Outside of the summer season the connection goes via Piraeus or another Cyclades island. Book ahead in July and August as this is one of the most popular routes in the Aegean.
Getting there by air
Both Crete and Mykonos have airports. There are no direct flights between the two islands. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. All connections go via Athens, which adds significant time compared to the direct summer ferry.
Your best option
Take the direct summer ferry from Heraklion when it is running. At around 4 to 5 hours it is the most practical and enjoyable approach. If the direct service is not available for your dates, fly via Athens, which adds complexity but is still manageable.
