Getting from Crete to Fournoi

If you are heading to Fournoi from Crete you are going to one of the finest fishing island complexes in the Aegean, a cluster of small islands between Ikaria and Samos with excellent seafood, quiet beaches and almost no tourist infrastructure.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Crete to Fournoi. The island is connected primarily through Ikaria and Samos, with the crossing from Ikaria taking around 20 to 55 minutes and from Samos taking around 1 hour. Getting to either island from Crete means flying via Athens first.

Getting there by air

Fournoi has no airport. The nearest airports are Ikaria and Samos, both of which have connections from Athens. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then Athens to Ikaria takes around 50 minutes, followed by the local ferry to Fournoi taking under 1 hour. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours.

Your best option

Fly to Ikaria via Athens and take the ferry across to Fournoi. Check the schedule before booking your flights and plan your Ikaria arrival around the afternoon departure. Give yourself at least two nights on Fournoi and come prepared as facilities on the island are limited.
