Getting from Crete to Poros

If you are heading to Poros from Crete you are going to one of the most charming of the Saronic islands, a small island separated from the Peloponnese mainland by a channel so narrow you can hear voices across the water, with a clocktower above the town and views back to the mountains of the Peloponnese.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Crete to Poros. The island is connected to Piraeus by the Saronic ferry network, with up to 6 daily departures and the trip taking around 50 minutes to just over an hour. Getting to Piraeus from Crete means taking the overnight ferry from Heraklion, making the total journey by sea the better part of a day.

Getting there by air

Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros takes around 50 minutes to just over an hour. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.

Your best option

Fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach and the connection from Piraeus is frequent and effortless. If you are combining Poros with a trip to the Peloponnese, the local boat from Galatas on the mainland side takes only a few minutes and is a useful connection if you are already in the area.
