Getting from Crete to Skiathos
If you are heading to Skiathos from Crete you are going to the most cosmopolitan of the Sporades, a small pine-covered island with over 60 beaches, a lively harbour town and some of the clearest water in the northern Aegean.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Crete to Skiathos. Getting there by sea means taking the overnight ferry from Crete to Piraeus and then travelling by road to Agios Konstantinos for the ferry to Skiathos, which takes around 3.5 hours. The total journey by this route takes the better part of two days.
Getting there by air
Both Crete and Skiathos have airports. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then Athens to Skiathos takes around 45 minutes, giving a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly to Skiathos via Athens. It is the most time efficient approach and the 45 minute flight from Athens is one of the shorter domestic hops in Greece. The airport is 2 kilometres from the town centre so you are on the island quickly after landing.
