Getting from Mykonos to Igoumenitsa
Igoumenitsa is a port town in Epirus on the northwestern coast of Greece and for most people it is a transit point rather than a destination. It is the main departure port for ferries to Corfu and the gateway to Italy by sea, connecting to Ancona, Bari, Brindisi and Venice. The town itself is functional rather than scenic but the surrounding region of Epirus is genuinely beautiful, with the mountains of the Pindos range rising behind it and the coast of Thesprotia stretching north and south. If you are heading to Corfu, Parga or the wider Epirus region, Igoumenitsa is where the journey often begins or ends.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Mykonos to Igoumenitsa. Igoumenitsa is not connected to the Aegean ferry network. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Mykonos to Piraeus and then travelling by road across Greece to the northwest coast, which is a long journey of around 6 to 7 hours from Athens by car or bus.
What about flying?
Igoumenitsa does not have its own airport. The nearest airport is Preveza, also known as Aktion Airport, around 90 kilometres to the south and serving the wider Epirus and Lefkada region. The journey from Mykonos goes Mykonos to Athens and then Athens to Preveza, with total travel time around 3 to 4 hours door to door. From Preveza Airport you would need a car or taxi to reach Igoumenitsa, which takes around 1 hour.
Your best option
Fly to Preveza via Athens and rent a car for the drive north to Igoumenitsa. If you are using Igoumenitsa purely as a connection point to Corfu, the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Corfu takes around 1.5 hours and runs very frequently. If you are heading to Parga or exploring the Epirus coast, having a car makes the whole region far more accessible.
