Getting from Mykonos to Kimolos

So you're heading from Mykonos to Kimolos. Kimolos is a tiny island sitting just off the northern tip of Milos and the two are so close you can see one from the other. It is one of the least visited islands in the Cyclades despite being genuinely beautiful. White village, volcanic landscape, hot springs on the beach and almost no tourism infrastructure to speak of. The people who go to Kimolos tend to be Greeks who want to get away from everything, and visitors who have already done the Cyclades circuit a few times and are looking for something different.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Mykonos to Kimolos. The most practical route is to take a ferry from Mykonos to Milos and then catch the short crossing from Pollonia on the northeastern tip of Milos across to Kimolos. That crossing takes around 20 minutes and runs several times a day. Alternatively some ferries on the western Cyclades route stop at Kimolos directly so check the schedule as you may find a connection that works without going via Milos port.

What about flying?

Kimolos does not have an airport so flying is not an option on this route. The ferry via Milos is your only way in. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Go via Milos and treat the two islands as a pair. Kimolos is best done as an extension of a Milos trip rather than a standalone destination given how close they are. Stay a night or two, walk to the village, swim at Prassa beach and enjoy the fact that you are on an island that most people have never heard of.
