Getting from Mykonos to Schinoussa

Schinoussa is one of the Small Cyclades, the quiet cluster of islands sitting between Naxos and Amorgos, and it is one of the least known of the group. Small enough that the entire permanent population fits in a single village, unhurried enough that time genuinely slows down when you are there. A few beaches, a handful of tavernas, no nightlife and no agenda. People who go to Schinoussa tend to be looking for exactly that and they are rarely disappointed.

Take the ferry

Schinoussa is served by ferries through the summer season as part of the Small Cyclades route. The crossing from Mykonos takes around 3 to 4 hours depending on the service and the stops along the way. Ferries do not run every day so check the timetable carefully before fixing your travel dates. Build some flexibility into your plans and book as soon as you find a crossing that works.

What about flying?

Schinoussa does not have an airport so flying is not an option on this route. The ferry is your only way in. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Take the ferry and stay long enough to properly settle in. Schinoussa rewards stillness. Walk between the beaches, eat at the taverna in the village square and resist the urge to fill your days with activity. Sometimes the best thing an island can offer is the chance to do very little and Schinoussa does that better than most.
