Getting from Mykonos to Serifos

So you're heading from Mykonos to Serifos. Serifos sits in the western Cyclades and gets a fraction of the visitors that the more famous islands see. The main village climbs up a dramatic hillside above the port, the beaches are quiet even in the height of summer, and the island has held onto a character that a lot of its neighbours have lost. It is one of those places that people come back to.

The route is direct but plan your day around the crossing time.

Take the ferry

Direct ferries run between Mykonos and Serifos through the summer season and the crossing takes around 3 to 4 hours. Serifos is one of the quieter western Cyclades islands so the ferry schedule is less frequent than the busier routes. Check departure times carefully before you fix your travel dates as there will not be a crossing every day. Book as soon as you find one that works.

What about flying?

Serifos does not have an airport so flying is not an option on this route. The ferry is your only way in. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Take the ferry and commit to a proper stay once you get there. Serifos is the kind of island that takes a day to settle into and then you wonder why you did not come sooner. The climb up to Chora in the evening with the port below you is one of those simple Greek island moments that is hard to beat.
