Getting from Mykonos to Tinos

So you're heading from Mykonos to Tinos. These two islands are as close to each other as any two islands in the Cyclades and yet they could not feel more different. Mykonos is one of the most visited islands in Greece, Tinos sits right next to it and moves at an entirely different pace. It is a deeply religious island, home to the Church of Panagia Evangelistria which draws pilgrims from across Greece, but it also has extraordinary food, beautiful marble villages inland and beaches that see none of the crowds you will find on its famous neighbour.

The crossing is one of the shortest you will do in the Cyclades.

Take the ferry

Direct ferries run between Mykonos and Tinos regularly and the crossing takes around 30 to 45 minutes. This is one of the closest island pairs in Greece and departures are frequent through the summer season. Book ahead in August particularly as Tinos sees a significant influx of visitors around the Feast of the Assumption on the 15th and ferries fill up well in advance around that date.

What about flying?

Tinos does not have an airport so flying is not an option on this route. The ferry is your only way in. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Take the ferry. At 30 to 45 minutes it is barely a crossing and you will be in Tinos Town before you have had time to find a good spot on deck. Give yourself a full day at least, walk up to the church in the morning, eat well at lunch and get out to the villages in the afternoon. Tinos rewards the people who take their time with it.
